Where a cavity has extended too deep into the tooth & severe pain and infection has set in, a sterile procedure to seal off the infection has to be performed.
The procedure involves removal of the infected pulp of the teeth, inserting medicament & a sterile dressing into the root canal & sealing the cavity using an inert filling material. It is recommended to conduct this procedure under antibiotic coverage.
The procedure may be completed in a single/double sitting depending on the severity of the infection. Following a root canal treatment, it is mandatory to provide protection to the brittle tooth structure by reinforcing it with a crown.
